As a proud father, entrepreneur, celebrated songwriter and recording artist; musical genius Kenny Lattimore knows just how much heat is needed to change things up.
His busy life is like many other recording artist, but his ability to create a stir with A Kenny Lattimore Christmas, his first ever Christmas album released late last year, is proof he's no ordinary man.
Kenny Lattimore has been a beacon of love, mending relationships and relieving hardship through his music with songs that hit the soul. Like “For You”, “Never Too Busy”, “Love Me Back”, and “When I Say I Do” only to name a few.
When I chatted with the modern soul man, he told me that witnessing God make his visions come to pass in 2016 gave him the courage to go forth in 2017. “There are three things that I was praying for in 2016 and God blew my mind. This year my prayer is just to remain humble. Over and over again the human side of us believes we have the courage to overcome obstacles, not knowing that God is the only hope and the deliverer.” He told Harvest.
Lattimore has already gained much local and regional recognition in Jazz, Soul, and R&B, is also a lover of gospel music. He sites Anthony Brown & Group therAPY, Travis Greene and Tasha Cobbs as his favorite gospel artists today. “Gospel music is foundational to me as a person because it is my faith in Jesus Christ that has helped to sustain me in general. I am a believer of the gospel and of salvation through Jesus Christ our Savior. Basically, in order for me to put my name on any of my projects, the gospel has to be in it. It is authentically who I am.”
When asked what advice he would give to a struggling artist, he said “I think that artists have to remember to love what they do and do it for the art. Let the music uplift you and never compare your platform to any other artist. Do you, and remain committed.”
Lattimore believes that politics and the demise of labels is one of the biggest problems in the music industry. “In the 90s, personal interest was not really the order of the game. The response from the society overtime towards the artist and the music has somewhat changed. People who sing horribly with heavily enhanced tones are selling records. I remember a time when you wouldn’t dare step up to the mic unless you could sing. Things have really changed.”
His well-rounded personality keeps him grounded. When asked about his life outside of music, the Howard University graduate explained that he loves to mentor, giving information to empower young people. He is also considered to be a family man who loves his son unconditionally. He vacillates between a socialite and a homebody. Fortunately; he enjoys the best of both worlds. However, he made it clear that he is not the guy that you will see at every party, but you can catch him occasionally at the Sugar Bar in New York City.
Will we get another Kenny Lattimore album? “Well, “Yes indeed! Firstly, I will be releasing a single in a couple of months. As it relates to the album, my team and I are just finishing up the details and I cant wait to share it with you all.”
Be sure to catch Kenny Lattimore at the Hamilton Live in Washington, DC on Valentine’s Day and Cruise with him on the Capital Jazz Soul Cruise in Miami on February 19. His passionate performances are sure to excite everyone in attendance.
